Rountree, Mary (7/23/1922 - 8/7/2007)

Dr. Mary was born in Miami, FL July 23, 1922, the youngest child of Mary and Samuel Rountree. She graduated from Miami Edison High School, attended Florida State University for two years, and worked for the US Government. She finished her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami, with a degree in Chemistry.

Mary played professional baseball in the All-American Professional Baseball League - best remembered in the movie, "A League of Their Own." Her baseball career helped finance her studies at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, where she received her Doctor of Medicine, June, 1956. She finished her residence at the Univ. of Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Veteran's Administration Hospital in 1960. She began her private practice in internal medicine. From 1966 - 1968, she completed her residency in anesthesiology. She continued her private practice until her retirement, then moved to Highland Beach, FL.

Mary loved being a doctor and even after retirement continued to care for her many friends and family members.  Dr. Mary will greatly be missed by her family and friends. Burial  at HOLLYWOOD MEMORIAL GARDENS.
