In 1946 Sophie was the player of the year. She hit .286, stole 201 bases out of 203, scored 119 runs, walked 93 times and she had a fielding avg. of .973 at second base. She led all players in the playoffs in hitting , stolen bases and runs scored. Soph was the real deal and was an All-Star year in and year out. She was without question one of the greatest team players developed in the AAGPBL.Besides baseball and softball, Kurys was interested in basketball, tennis, swimming and riding. Her great speed and athletic ability allowed her to be a standout in track and field. Sophie set many offensive records for the AAGPBL and for professional baseball that still stand today.
