Mary Rountree Seasonal Batting Record
"Square" was a gutsy catcher who ended her seven-year career at the end of the 1952 season. She was a very capable catcher who had a great deal of leadership and handled pitchers very well. In the off-season, Mary attended medical school and received her M.D. Degree in 1956 from Florida State College for Women and the University of Miami. The AAGPBL tried to sign Mary during the war years but a job in the State Department in Washington DC and the fact that she had three brothers in service prompted her to refuse but in1946 she signed after try outs in Miami. In 1938 and 1940 she played on two championship teams that also went on to play in the National Championships.
