Profile Biography
Marie Menheer was one of fourteen children; 7 boys and seven girls. Marie won her right to try out for the All-Americans after pitching her Kenosha-based team to the City Championship in 1944. Although she only piched in one game for the Racine Belles, her six inning performance gained her success in her lifetime goal, to play in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and to earn a place in women's baseball history.
Marie liked swimming and skating and her hobby was music. She was a worker during the war with Nash Aircraft in Kenosha, WI. Later she married Brone Zoromsky and they raised three children, all boys. After a long battle for many years with cancer, she died in 2003.
We received Marie's photo and an article about her rookie year from her nephew, which he found in the 1945 Racine Yearbook.
