Rich Abel, former AAGPBL player Barbara Payne’s nephew and caregiver, shared that Barbara passed away March 11, 2024. Barbara, born September 18, 1932, was 91. Rich noted that he “was very proud of her as a person, and as a pioneer in women’s sports, both in the AAGPBL and as a 10 time winner of the Shreveport, Louisiana Women’s Golf Championship over the course of 4 decades.”
