Beverly S. Volkert, 76, Hicksville, Ohio, a Redkey native, died Sunday August 28, 2005 at her home.

Born in Redkey on Feb. 19, 1929, to Gerald and Velma (Colson) Hatzell, she married Mervin Volkert on Feb. 14, 1959. He survives.

She was a homemaker and member of the First Church of Christ in Hicksville.

A participant in the All-American Girls Baseball League from 1949 to 1951, she also was an avid golfer and bowler.

Other survivors include a brother and a sister.

Services were held at M.J.S. Mortuaries in Redkey. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Redkey.
