Virginia Dolores (Carver) Craig, 87, passed away Dec. 9, 2022 in her Petaluma California home. Born Feb. 23, 1935 in New Brighton, PA, to the late Ernest and Sophie Carver.
She graduated from New Brighton High School leaving early her senior year to play for the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. In 1953, she played for the South Bend Blue Sox. In1954, she played for the Fort Wayne Daisies, which was the pennant-winning team that year. The league folded in 1954. She and her league mates have a permanent mention on display at the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown NY. To date, she is the only New Brighton native to hold such an honor.
In 1956 she joined the US Air Force where she continued to play on a traveling softball team as a standout catcher, shortstop, and outfielder. Her playing career spanned 8 years with the Air Force, in which she served 11 years total. Virginia then worked for the US Postal Service in California until her retirement.
In 2007 Virginia was inducted into the New Brighton, PA, Sports Hall of Fame. She was to be inducted into the 2023 Beaver County (PA) Hall of Fame in May 2023.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a nephew. Surviving is a brother and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Neptune Society of Santa Rosa, California was in charge of her arrangements. Her interment is at the Chapel of the Chimes, Santa Rosa, CA
