Bonnie Lou Cooper, 83, of Tremont, IL passed away at 12:43 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018, at her home.

She was born on March 17, 1935, in Tremont to James E. and Myrtle M. Bailey Cooper.

Surviving are her companion and partner-in-crime for 34 years; her four-legged furry friend, Bailey; three nephews; eight nieces; 29 great-nieces and nephews; and 17 great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, two sisters, two nephews and one great-nephew.

Bonnie worked with her mother at the Tremont Café from 1955-1966. She then owned and operated the café for the next 47 years, retiring in 2013.

In 1952, Bonnie was given the opportunity to play professional baseball, beginning with the Peoria Redwings. She was then traded to the Battle Creek Belles to finish out her baseball career in 1954. She is honored in the Women in Baseball Display at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

She enjoyed golfing and bowling, and in later years, loved camping and traveling.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Tremont United Methodist Church. Pastor Larry Frank officiated. There was no visitation.

Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rescue 702, St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
